The poems anthologized here are then divided into twenty-four sections that include titles like “Anecdote,” “Object Poems,” “Flash Poems,” “Aphorism,” “Rant,” “Sequence,” etc. Such divisions of formal possibility help readers look at prose poetry in completely new ways. Instead of this lump category—prose poetry—there arrives an active transmission of specific practices that give the prose poem a flexible and insightful formal possibility all its own. What can be accomplished within the prose poem differs from other prose and verse media. Clements and Dunham therefore argue for ways to look at prose poetry as an imposing development in contemporary practice, and they help us understand how this has happened and why it’s important.

Iain Sinclair at Urbis

UPDATE 19/06: Richard Barrett gives his verdict too. Iain Sinclair gave a fantastic talk this past Thursday at the launch of Corridor8 in Manchester's Urbis, a 50-minute contemplation that took in Manchester, Berlin, East London, Joseph Beuys and Anthony Gormley, amongst other things. In conjunction with the talk, Sinclair created an audio podcast of the walk he made from Urbis, located in the city centre, to Manchester airport on the extreme outskirts of the city.

Silliman on Tony Lopez's Darwin

My own sense is that this is the most exquisitely constructed prose I’ve ever read – more lush than Proust. But my admittedly self-indulgent process of reading & rereading every paragraph over many times before heading on to the next one does point up to what I think of as this book’s only serious limitation: it’s far too short.
