Journal of British and Irish Innovative Poetry: Subscribe

You can now subscribe to the journal.

The first issues of the journal are set to contain articles by Mandy Bloomfield, Ian Davidson, G. S. Farmer, Matt Ffytche, Christine and David Kennedy, and Alex Latter. On the poetry of Veronica Forrest-Thomson, Maggie O'Sullivan, and Jeremy Prynne among others. They will also contain reviews of the latest academic works published in the area of British and Irish Innovative Poetry.

Geraldine Monk and Martin Archer PERFORM AT TEXTMUSICTEXTMUSIC SYMPOSIUM

[wpvideo tFX90lWp] On the 23rd of May the Birkbeck Poetics Centre held a Symposium on Text and Music in their multiple relationships, both in theory and in poetic and musical practice, with special emphasis on collaboration as a process. Apart from offering a forum for papers, videos and performances, the event also gave an opportunity for people working with text and music to meet. Their were a series of performance afterwards at the Horse Hospital. Openned documented these performances. This is the second of those performances by composer Martin Archer and poet Geraldine Monk.

consider these two quotations from 20th century composers: "I have nothing to say & I'm saying it" (John Cage) "a statement should be made . . . without saying it" (Duke Ellington) how do the possibly incompatible worldviews encapsulated in the above relate to the unbridgeable chasm that exists between differing ideas of what is, in the early 21st century, still called poetry? which of the statements is useful for the formulation of revolutionary demands within poetic criticism?

Cambridge University digitises incunabula

A treasure-trove of books that are more than 500 years old are to be catalogued online by the University of Cambridge. The selection includes a 1455 copy of the Gutenberg Bible, the first book printed in Europe using movable metal type, and the first printed edition of Homer's works, from 1488. The project will be undertaken over the next five years.
