Anyone know what medium these were played on? Sounds like CD, with all the clicking.
I remember seeing another interesting project on a similar theme, involving scanning the grooves of vinyl. There's a surprising amount of information which can be picked up by highly-detailed scanning. The playback through interpretive software successfully recreated the essence of the source, but it was spooky on a level no manner of live production would ever have achieved. Can't for the life of me remember where I saw this, though.
